Kammprofile Gasket Basic Style

Kaxite Basic Style Kammprofile Gasket (LP1) is a serrated metal core gasket without a guide ring, faced with flexible graphite, EPTFE or HTG soft facing on both sealing surfaces. The concentric serrations on the solid metal core improve sealing performance at low seating stress, making it ideal for heat exchangers, large vessels, tongue and groove flanges, and recessed Male and Female joints. SS316 core, EN-12560-6 sealing core design, service temperature up to 1500°F, recommended flange finish 125-250 RMS. Custom materials, non-circular shapes and OEM packaging available. Kammprofile Gasket Basic Style for Heat Exchangers, Large Vessels and Recessed Flanges

Kaxite Basic Style Kammprofile Gasket is a serrated metal core gasket without a guide ring, manufactured for tongue and groove, recessed and Male and Female flange applications. The sealing core consists of a solid metal plate with concentric serrations on both sealing surfaces, faced with flexible graphite, EPTFE or HTG soft facing. This combination provides one of the tightest seals available with superior load bearing characteristics, especially at low seating stress.

How the Kammprofile Structure Works

A Kammprofile gasket is built from two materials that act together. The solid metal core carries the load and resists blow-out. The soft facing on the outside of the serrations fills the micro-irregularities on the flange surface and creates the actual seal.

The simultaneous action of a highly compressible facing material on the outside, combined with limited penetration of the tips of the solid metal core into the facing, allows the two materials to perform individually at their optimum capability. This is why Kammprofile gaskets hold well at low bolt load and continue to hold under cyclic thermal conditions.

Three Kammprofile Styles — Match the Flange, Not the Other Way Around

The Kammprofile seal core is the same across the three styles. The difference is how the gasket is centred and supported on the flange. Choosing the wrong style is one of the most common causes of poor sealing. The other two styles are also produced by Kaxite and can be reviewed on the Kammprofile Gaskets category page.

LP1

Basic Style (this page)

Manufactured without a guide ring. Used in tongue and groove, recessed and Male and Female flange applications. Typically applied in heat exchangers and as an upgrade to double jacketed gaskets when lower bolt load is needed.

  • No guide ring
  • Tongue & groove flanges
  • Recessed Male & Female
  • Heat exchanger head & shell joints

Suggested action: machine out the nubbin (if present) before installing LP1 in heat exchanger service.

LP2

With Inner Ring

Constructed with an integral inner guide ring for aligning purposes. Suggested for raised face flanges. The sealing core is designed and sized per EN-12560-6, and the guide ring is sized to fit the flange specification.

  • Integral inner guide ring
  • Raised face flanges
  • EN-12560-6 sealing core
  • Standard flange specifications

LP3

With Outer Ring

Uses a loose outer ring. Preferred for nominal pipe size and pressure class raised face flanges, and for equipment with excessive radial shear characteristics, thermal cycling and expansions. The sealing core is per EN-12560-6 and the guide ring is sized to suit the flange specification.

  • Loose outer guide ring
  • NPS / Class raised face flanges
  • Radial shear, thermal cycling
  • Expandable equipment

Where the Basic Style is Used

01

Heat Exchangers

The Kammprofile Basic Style is a recognized problem solver for heat exchanger head and shell joints. It is used as an upgrade to double jacketed gaskets where lower bolt load is needed.

02

Large Vessels

Suitable for large vessels and equipment that experience excessive movement due to thermal expansion, where a solid metal core with soft facing holds torque better than a compressed fibre sheet.

03

Tongue and Groove Flanges

The Basic Style is manufactured without a guide ring specifically for tongue and groove flanges, where the groove provides the centring and the gasket only needs to seal.

04

Recessed Male & Female Joints

Also used in recessed and Male and Female flange joints where the recess provides the centring. Standard for certain heat exchanger and valve bonnet connections.

Why Choose a Kammprofile Gasket Instead of a Jacketed or Sheet Gasket

  • A
Tight seal at low bolt load

The serrated metal core bites into the soft facing, so sealing is achieved at lower seating stress than a compressed sheet or double jacketed gasket.

  • B
    Superior load bearing

The solid metal core carries bolt load without crushing, giving better torque retention and less re-torque after thermal cycling.

  • C
    Thermal cycling stability

Preferred for heat exchangers and vessels that move due to thermal expansion, where sheet gaskets relax and start leaking.

  • D
    Direct replacement for double jacketed

Upgrade path from double jacketed gaskets where lower bolt load is available or where reliability must improve.

  • E
    Material flexibility

Core and facing are chosen separately. High temperature uses graphite facing; aggressive chemical service uses EPTFE facing.

  • F
    Non-circular shapes

Kaxite can produce non-circular and custom-engineered shapes efficiently with high accuracy for bonnet and special flange connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Kammprofile Gasket Basic Style?

Kammprofile Gasket Basic Style (also called Kammpro LP1) is a serrated metal core gasket without a guide ring. It is manufactured for tongue and groove, recessed, and Male and Female flange applications, especially in heat exchangers, and is typically used as an upgrade to double jacketed gaskets when lower bolt load is needed.

What is the difference between Basic Style, Inner Ring Style and Outer Ring Style?

Basic Style (LP1) is manufactured without a guide ring for tongue and groove and recessed flanges. Inner Ring Style (LP2) is constructed with an integral inner guide ring for aligning purposes on raised face flanges. Outer Ring Style (LP3) uses a loose outer ring and is used for nominal pipe size and pressure class raised face flanges, especially where there is excessive radial shear, thermal cycling or expansion.

What materials are used for the sealing core and facing?

The sealing core is typically SS316, but SS304, SS316L, SS321, Monel, Inconel and other alloys are available. The soft facing is usually flexible graphite, EPTFE or HTG configuration, chosen based on operating temperature, pressure and chemical media.

What is the recommended flange surface finish for a Kammprofile Gasket?

The suggested flange surface finish for Kammprofile gaskets is 125-250 RMS. A smoother finish may reduce the mechanical grip between the serrations and the flange surface, while a rougher finish may leave leak paths.

What is the maximum service temperature?

Kammprofile gaskets with a graphite facing can be applied up to 1500°F (approximately 815°C), depending on the core material and facing material. EPTFE facing has a lower temperature limit and is used for chemical resistance rather than high temperature.

Can Kaxite produce non-circular Kammprofile Gaskets?

Yes. Kaxite can produce non-circular Kammprofile gaskets and custom-engineered gaskets to fit bonnet connection shapes and other non-standard flange profiles. Send a drawing or sample for quotation.

How do I request a quotation?

Send flange size, pressure class, core material (SS316, SS304, SS316L etc.), facing material (flexible graphite, EPTFE, HTG), thickness, quantity and destination port. Kaxite will reply with FOB Ningbo quotation, lead time and packing details.

Ready to Quote a Kammprofile Gasket Basic Style?

Send your flange drawing, pressure class, core material and facing preference. Kaxite will prepare an FOB Ningbo quotation and can quote LP1, LP2 and LP3 styles side by side against the same drawing.
